Tuesday, January 5

Today we swam.  It was so fun!!  There’s a slide in the pool, and the beach is so cool!  We also found crabs on the beach at night.

Wednesday, January 6

Today we swam again.  We also caught crabs.  It’s so fun!  That night we went to a restaurant and had pizza.  It was good.

Thursday, January 7

Today we played pool.

Saturday, January 2

Today we went to Pisac.  We went swimming and played sports.  Then we went to eat cuy (guinea pig).  Then it seemed like forever till we got home.  I like Pisac.

Sunday, January 3

Today I went to a Spanish church.  I couldn’t understand a word!  Then we went to an airport to go to Lima.  Then we took what seemed like ages to get to a bus stop.  The buses were double decker.  I sat on the top deck.

Monday, January 4

After a 13 hour bus ride, guess what?  A three hour car ride!  :(   But at least it was to the beach.  There’s a pool too!  I love the beach:)

Thursday, December 31

Today we had firecrackers.  They were loud.  At least some of them.  Some flew.  Some just did decorations.  My favorite was the flying monkey.  It made little sparks and at the end there were balls that rolled around.

Friday, January 1

Today we went to visit Promesa school.  We also went to visit the land where they will build a new Promesa school someday.

We also went to another market.  I saw cow nose, cow stomach, and cow ribs.  I also went to the house of the friend of the friend where I am staying (Jeremiah).  We played soccer and dodgeball.  On the way back we took a  short cut through fields and over rivers.

Wednesday, December 30

Today we went to downtown Cusco.  We rode a combi to the Plaza de Armas.  A combi is like a van with many benches in it for people to sit on.  Some people stand.  It was crowded.

At the plaza we bought bird seed and fed the pigeons.  My dad got a shoe shine that turned his shoes from brown to yellow.  They look funny.

Then we went to the market to buy some stuff.  My sister got alpaca slippers.  On the way home we stopped to buy some empanadas.  We ate them at home.  They were really good.

Then at night we had a fun time when we played games (spoons) and sang songs.  Some in Spanish and some in English.

Monday, December 28

My family drove by taxi to a train station in Ollantaytambo.  Then we went by train to Aguascalientes (Hot waters).  We saw pueblos, a river and lots of farm animals.  My dad withdrew Peruvian money (Soles) from an ATM machine.  We slept at a hostel.

Tuesday, December 29

We took a bus to Machu Picchu (Old Mountain).  It was AWESOME!!  We saw lots of old buildings, lots and lots of stairs and best of all 14 llamas!  It wasn’t as high as Cusco.  We took a bus back to town and had pizza for lunch.  Then went to the train station to get our train.  We ate choclo (corn on the cob) when we got off the train.  When we got to Cusco we played Scum.  Then we went to bed.

We had a long flight on Saturday (8 hours).  Several things helped pass the time on the plane.  Each seat had a TV screen to choose movies, programs, or games. I watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and played a few games.  You could also follow the progress of the trip on a screen that showed where the plane was and how much was left.  We were served a hot dinner.  This was the first time I ate a hot meal on a plane.

We arrived in Lima around 1130 PM.  When we got off the plane we went through the Aduana.  There was a long line of people.  They checked our passports and papers my dad had filled out on the plane.  Then we got our luggage and a taxi van took us to the place we stayed overnight.

The bed and breakfast was cool.  We had breakfast in the kitchen where two ladies made eggs for us.  After breakfast we packed up and went back to the airport for our flight to Cusco.  This was a short flight.  On the way we saw some snow on the Andes mountains.

When we landed, we picked up our luggage and then went to meet the Shultz family and Derrick Brubaker outside the airport.  We arrived at the home of Ron, Regina, Hannah, Jeremiah and Bethany.  They helped us settle in and we had a delicious lunch which included soup and coca tea.  This is supposed to help us get adjusted to the altitude.

After lunch we opened suitcases and shared some of the stuff we had brought for the Promesa school and the Shultz family.  We played Apples to Apples, watched a movie and went for a walk.  We also checked the football scores on the internet and found out that both the Eagles and the Cowboys won.

Day 3

We had a good night sleep.  We are going to take a taxi from Cusco to Ollanta this morning.  We will ride on a train from there to Aguascalientes this afternoon.  Tomorrow morning we visit Machu Picchu.

Hi, my name is Jansen.  I am in the third grade at Hans Herr Elementary.  My teacher is Mrs. Warihay.  I like playing DS.  I got a Madden DS game for Christmas.  My favorite team is the Philadelphia Eagles.  My dad likes the Dallas Cowboys.  Tony Romo stinks!

We are sitting in the airport in Newark waiting for our plane to take off.  We have an 8 hour flight to Lima.  I’m going to walk around before sitting for so long.
